If where you live is anything like where I live, it is very cold outside, and a little chilly indoors too.
I find that the best way to keep warm is to snuggle under a quilt. Nothing is warmer or feels better than a hand made , one of a kind quilt.
I have some great choices in my shop, www.originalsbylauren.etsy.com and I am getting ready to make more in the next few weeks, so check often for new stock.
I use 100% cotton fabric and cotton batting, and they are warm and durable, made to last for years.
Whether you need a quilt for yourself , a gift, or a new baby, I can give you what you are looking for.
So, my best advise for these frigid days is this, put on a sweater, make a cup of cocoa, snuggle up under a quilt and read a good book. Enjoy these winter days, and have a great 2010!

A Break from Sewing
I thought while I was taking a break, I would pop in here. I have been seriously neglecting my blog.
I have been the potholder queen the last few weeks, and I so appreciate everyone that purchased them from me. I love to make them and see others enjoy them, but I make lots of other things too.I wanted to show you some of the other items in my shop, because potholders and aprons are not my only items. I also have quilts, jewelry and some bags.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season, and until Christmas, mention this blog post and get free shipping on all quilts.

Amelia
now that I have some stock built up, it is time for
me to photograph them on a model.
I was lucky enough to have Amelia, an adorable
energetic 2 year old daughter of another seller on etsy. I wanted to share a few photos of her with you.
They say clothes make the man, but I think Amelia makes the clothes.
Visit www.originalsbylaurentoo.etsy.com to check out these and other children's clothes for boys and girls.

New Aprons for Fall
Aprons are my best selling item in my shop www.originalsbylauren.etsy.com . I wanted to add more choices, and I found some great fabrics to use.
All my aprons fit real women, they are generously cut to fit misses and plus sizes, and offer full coverage to keep you clothes clean while cooking. They are pretty enough to entertain in, but you don't need company to want to look nice in the kitchen.
The new aprons I added are 100% cotton, as always, and machine washable and dryable.
The first one is black and covered in cupcakes, Robert Kaufman fabric. Who doesn't like cupcakes?
Next I have an Amy Butler pale pink covered in large peonies, very pretty and femine.
Last is Iota's Garden, a Japanese fabric made for Michael Miller. It is a turquoise/aqua with colorful vegetables all over it, very appropriate for any kitchen.
So whether it is one of these, or any of the other aprons in my shop, pick one up for yourself, or get one for a gift. Just remember, they won't last forever.

Going Green
When I go shopping I always bring my own bags. I have mesh produce bags so I don't need to use plastic.
I wanted to help you go a little green, so I came up with these great bags.
The first 4 are lunchbags. They are insulated and have ripstop nylon lining. The lining can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. The entire bag can also be machine washed and dryed.

The bags are oversized and have a handle to carry them by. They have a closure so things don't fall out.
I have them in cotton, denim, even batik! Only $22 each. More designs to come, stay tuned.
I also have made bread bags. They are lined in the same ripstop nylon to keep the bread fresh, and have a velcro closure along the entire opening. The bag is large, big enough for a large bread machine loaf, or 2 smaller loaves. You could even slip a pie inside. No more plastic wrap or bags.
Snack and sandwich bags are also on the way.
Stop by www.originalsbylauren.etsy.com and take a look, and remember , I am always happy to do a special order.

I've Been Busy
August has been a busy month for me so far in my etsy shop http://www.originalsbylauren.etsy.com/
I wanted to share my new listings with you. I have been working on this quilt for a while now. It is made from bali batiks and I made it in a braid design. It is large enough for a twin bed, perfect for an oversized throw, or would be stunning hanging on a wall. Next I made a jewelry travel bag. This measures 4"x6" closed. It is lined with anti-tarnish flannel, to keep even silver shiny. The zipper opens both ways, and there are 2 interior pockets. It is just small enough to carry in your purse or carryon bag, but still large enough to use at home. More colors to come.

I have a bunch of great new designer home dec weight cottons, and I wanted to use them for some potholders. The designs are very modern, they are graphic, and really eyecatching. I still have all my regular potholders, but I think these are a great addition.
So stop by my shop and look around, I still have lots of aprons, and many other items. It's not too early to start holiday shopping, or treat yourself.

July in Tuscany
We just got back from a wonderful vacation and I wanted to share a little bit of it.
Tim and I went to Italy for nine days in July. We flew into Rome and stayed at the Leonardo DaVinci Jolly Hotel for 2 nights and then drove to Tuscany, where we were the guests of Tim's brother Terry and his wife Anna. Their photo is the last one on this page.
They rented a beautiful villa and invited us to be their guests there. It was in the mountains with a breathtaking view. A wonderful time was had by all. There were between 10 and 25 of us, depending on the day. Anna's family lives in Italy, so there were always alot of them staying there.
One of the most beautiful sights was all the fields of sunflowers. They grow millions of them to make oil. It is breathtaking to see an entire hillside covered. Tuscany also has vineyards and olive groves, also very pretty.
The picture of the city is Florence. We spent a day there, and Tim and I bought new wedding rings to commemorate our 30th anniversary. They are so pretty, and it was very special to be able to do that.
We visited Sienna, Abreeza, Ambra, and Vatican City. It was such a wonderful time. I am very grateful for being able to go.
Enough for now, I just wanted to show a little of our trip.

Summer is here
Summer is finally here, and with it comes sunny days, warm weather, and children playing outdoors. Nothing is cuter than a little girl in a cotton dress . I have some fantastic dresses for your daughter this summer.
They are 100% cotton, and come in sizes 1-6 in a range of colors and prints. These dresses have a fully lined sleeveless yoke and a full enough skirt to twirl. They are long enough to take you little princess through more than one season.
When fall comes, put a tshirt underneath and even add a pair of leggings when the snow falls. You can wash these over and over and they still look cute enough to wear to a birthday party.
To see these dresses, go to www.originalsbylauren.etsy.com
They sell for just $30 each.

Fun Children's Dresses
I have decided to bring back my little girl's dress line. I love making them and they are just adorable!
All dresses are made of 100% cotton. All fabric is top quality, amy butler, michael miller, and alexander henry to name a few.
They have an empire waist and a full skirt that falls around midcalf. The bodice is completely lined, no facings to stick out or itch.
I make them long and loose so that your little angel can grow and still getted added wear out of it. They are perfect for both a morning in church or a day in the sandbox. Take them and toss them in the washing machine and they are ready to be worn again.
I try to pick bright, child friendly fabrics, with great designs that will hide small stains if necessary. Clothing is too expensive these days to have to worry about a little dirt.
Here is the best part. Besides being well made and durable, they are only $30 each. . Dresses come in sizes 1,2,3,4,5,&6. Stop by my shop and take a look today.

It's Been a While
It has been a while since I showed you my jewelry. Although I am primarily a sewer, I also make jewelry. I make sterling silver and copper, primarily. I do metalsmithing, so I solder, hammer, cast, set stones, and more. All of my jewelry is 100% made by me and original designs. It is also one of a kind. Even similar pieces are different, I like things that look organic . I wanted to share some photos of some pieces, and also wish you a very happy memorial day. Thanks for stopping by.

Calling All Expectant Mothers
Are you expecting a baby, or do you have someone close to you that is? I am now making custom maternity hospital gowns. They are 100% cotton. There are snaps on the shoulders for easy nursing and velcro or ties down the back for modesty. I have a large assortment of fabrics you may choose from. I can make one to fit you no matter your size. It will be custom made to your measurements. Perfect for anyone, but especially hard to fit sizes.
These make a great shower gift, or mother's day gift, or pick one up for yourself.
