New Items

Good Morning everyone. I wanted to share with you 2 new items that I made.

The first one is a wallquilt that I made from 100% cotton with cotton batting. I machine quilted it and then appliqued on top. It is 14" (40cm) square and has a sleeve to hang it on the back . You could also use this as a table topper. I have listed it on etsy for just $30.

The next is a charm bracelet I made. The chain I made from sterling silver wire. The charms are genuine German 10 fennig coins, from before the inception of the euro. This is a one of a kind treasure, and I will no be making more. These are the last coins that I have. I have listed it on Dawanda for 29 euro.

If you are interested in either one of these but would like to buy them in the other currency, let me know and I can relist them on the other site.

Thanks for stopping by and please visit my shops. www.originalsbylauren.etsy.com

Hand Dyed Beauty!

I just had too share this quilt with you. The fabrics are hand dyed, and the quilt is machine pieced and machine quilted. It is pieced on the back , too. I used piping for the inner border and it is 60" square. I just love the colors, and cannot bear to part with it. This one is definitely mine.
I do have quilts for sale in my shop at www.originalsbylauren.etsy.com . Please check them out if you would like to. I also have aprons and jewelry.

And Jewelry Too!

I haven't featured any of my handmade jewelry in a while, so I thought I would showcase a few pieces. I have been doing metalsmithing for about 5 years now. I really enjoy making unique, one of a kind organic looking pieces.
The cuff bracelet on top is sterling silver and is 1/2" wide. It is roller printed with a leaf to give it the design, and oxidized to show off the pattern.
The pendant is quite unique. I sawed out a design in sterling sheet metal, soldered a bezel to the back and put in a flat stone. It hangs on a hanmade silver chain.
Lastly, I wanted to show you some brass and silver earrings. The earwires and the wire wrap are sterling, and the body of the earring is brass that I hammered to add texture and visual interest.
So stop by http://www.originalsbylauren.etsy.com/ and check out my jewelry, aprons, quilts and more.
I will be happy to ship gifts directly to the recipient gift wrapped for no extra charge.

A Beautiful Bride

My daughter's best friend got married and I just had to share this photo. Have you ever seen a more beautiful picture? She is a very pretty girl, but this is just so beautiful! They had a church wedding and then a Hindu ceremony , hence the sari, and my daughter said it was a beautiful wedding. How could it not have been . I have not seen the wedding gown shots yet, but they must be gorgeous too, how could they not be?

I Finally Finished!

Well, I finally finished my Christmas Quilt! I pieced it last year, and began handquiltling last fall. I still had the borders to quilt, and I finished last night (woohoo).

Now the big question, should I keep it or sell it? I really love it, but it would be really nice to sell a big piece.

This is a bedsized quilt. It measures 76" x 84". I measured it last night, so I will redo it later, as I am doing this from memory.

So, if you have an opinion on what I should do, or want to purchase it, please let me know.

Don't forget the Quiltsy Team Trunk Show in the virtual labs on Etsy. It will be held Monday 9/22 @ 7pm edt . We have 16 participants , and their work is fabulous and very professional.

There will be door prizes, so start you holiday shopping from the comfort of your own home.

Colorful Spools

I wanted to share with you my newest listing in my shop on etsy http://www.originalsbylauren.etsy.com/

This design is called spools, and is a very old, traditional design. I like traditional, scrap quilts the best. I actually made this from the extra blocks from a bed quilt I made for my daughter.

I machine pieced and machine quilted it. I think my machine quilting skills are really coming along, don't you? It is 36x48 inches, so would make a prefect baby quilt or wall hanging.

And last but not least, don't forget to attend the quiltsy team trunk show on 9/22 from 7-9pm edt in the etsy virtual labs. You do not have to register with etsy to view, but you do to purchase, just like any other shopping site.

There will be many handmade quilted items available for sale there by myself and 15 other very talented quilters. I hope to see you there.

Oh Whoa Is Me

I am very sad. I burned the motor out on my sewing machine. I have a 9 year old Husqvarna Lily 550, and I was just commenting about how well it has held up. Well, not anymore.
I was freemotion quilting and I was really excited because it was turning out so nicely, and then nothing. The computer works, the lights work, but it doesn't do anything.
The shop where I bought it said that when you use them professionally, they wear out.
If I read the warantee card correctly (very tiny print) , I have a 20 year warantee. However, my husband read it and said 5.
Oh well. I would love to buy a new one, but if they give me a new motor for a couple hundred bucks, I'm sticking with this one.

I am done whining now, thanks for listening (reading).

Sunflowers

I just couldn't keep these to myself. They are the most gorgeous sunflowers I have ever seen.
I went to the farmer's market yesterday, and I have bought flowers before there, but when I saw these! They are certainly the healthiest looking I have seen.
And guess what? They were $1 each! The ones in the grocery store cost more than that, and who knows when they were picked!

Just a reminder, you won't want to miss the quiltsy team trunk show in the etsy virtual labs on Monday 9/22 at 7 pm. (edt) So come one and come all. There are some great door prizes!
